3000 Hedge Plants are Planted

With lambing all but over, Robert has had ten days free before his flight back to Romania. That has been an ideal time to catch up on some hedge planting, under our environmental stewardship agereement.

Over the winter some 2000 metres of stock fencing has been erected, all grant-aided, to either protect existing hedgerows or enable us to plant new ones. So, in the last ten days, armed with a peeler and a home-made contraption to firm up the soil after planting, Robert has planted 3000 transplants. The mix consists of hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, hornbeam, field maple and dog rose.

Now with the recent rains taking effect, we can look forward to an enhanced landscape as a result of our labours, and more importantly encouraging even more wildlife to Hare Farm.
