Lambing 2017 is Open

Lambing is officially due to start on 10th March at Hare Farm. That's when 1000 ewes and tegs, all housed indoors in the run up, will start to produce new life and create lots of work and spectacle for the family. That's also when we welcome course students and guests into the sheds when attending one of the organised courses.

Lambing Day Courses

Soon to be in its fourth year, lambing courses for 2017 are set on 3 separate dates in March. With just 8 students per course, most with no experience (just huge intrigue) will join the lambing team and benefit from an intimate insight into all that goes on at lambing time. Students will observe, learn and do a whole range of lambing tasks. We spot signs of labour, observe births and fosterings, then follow the mother from the early seconds of giving birth through to the rewarding point of letting her out to grass with her strong pair of lambs.

The courses run from 10-4pm on Monday 13th, Friday 17th and Friday 24th March. The price per person is £95 and that includes a warming lunch and further lambing chat in the local pub. We already have a few bookings for next year - from aspiring vets, to Christmas gifts bought for parents and partners.

NEW for 2017-  Lambing Weekend Stays

Book a stay in the Oast house or Shepherd's hut during the weekends of 10th or 17th March and we will tailor-make a workshop for you and your group. For £20 per person, over the course of 2 hours, you'll learn about all the stages of lambing and get hands on with a few of the tasks too. It's a fascinating insight that very few people get to see.

The Oast house is just a stone's throw from the lambing sheds. Sleeping 10, it is a sprawling, unique building where 6 of the rooms are round, and the views from the Oast are far-reaching and beautiful. Sheep and lambs will be in the fields all around you.

More information on the oast house is found here. A weekend stay in March costs £1,300 for 10 people, plus £20 per person for the lambing workshop. (Minimum 5 people required)

The Shepherd's Hut is tucked away behind a copse and perched on a hill with fabulous views down through the valley and over a lake. Sheep and lambs will be all around you, even under you (they love to play between the wheels!). Stay in the shepherd's hut whilst attending a course and you will carry the crown of being a true shepherd for your time whilst on the farm. Shepherd's huts used to be used by farmers during lambing time in the Victorian times to follow their sheep from field to field, and for keeping any weak lambs warm inside.

More information on the shepherds hut can be found here. £160 for 2 for the weekend. £20 per person for the lambing workshop (Minimum 5 people required, so your workshop will be taken with Oast house guests)
