Lambing course dates set for 2020

Now that the rams have spent time with the dams, we can confidently declare that there will be a lambing season in 2020!

With so much positive feedback season after season, we are pleased to continue a series of course dates next year, with all 3 lambing course dates being during the day and starting at 10am with a finish time at 4pm.

We still don't know of any other such courses that run a hands-on day like ours, at least there's nothing south of Wales. We spend all day with our students in amongst the action; there's no theory books or simulators here. You will learn all there is to know by observing the goings-on of  a very busy lambing shed, and getting the opportunity to try the tasks yourselves. On every course so far, across 6 seasons now, the students have witnessed live births up close, and have been able to try their hand at all manner of tasks, including handling hours-old lambs and their mothers, adding iodine to navels, suckling any weak lambs, docking tails, moving "families" out to fields and so much more. It's an intensive operation at Hare Farm, and the magical world of lambing time is there for just a small group fof students to see.

We keep our course groups small at a maximum of 8 people per day, so as to ensure everyone can have a deep and attentive training. Just 24 spaces (across 3 dates) are available this year. Don't delay to secure your space!

And please don't feel you need to have sheep at home to qualify. Most of our students are purely inquisitive animal lovers, many have dreams of owning their own smallholding one day, some have their own new mini sheep flock and need a hands-on immersion before embarking on lambing at home soon after, and some are aspiring vet students building their work experience for college applications. That's just a few examples.

The lambing courses will be led by me, Joanna, sister to Stuart who runs the family farm. We have helped our parents lamb since primary school days, carrying buckets and feeding the ewes' tea. Now Stuart is an award-winning sheep farmer, breeding excellent lambs, and maintaining a flock in tip-top condition, with welfare at its core. We farm in the beautiful Brede Valley - it's a very nice place to spend a day on a lambing course. Do join us where we tell you our story and we will share with you how we lamb.

Course dates: 11th, 13th and 17th March 2020, 10-4pm. £100 per person, including lunch.

Get in touch with Joanna at stay@harefarm.co.uk or 07802 979348 and let's book you on.
