Lambing Courses 2015

This year was the first year we ran lambing courses at Hare Farm and their popularity was fantastic. We were picked up by the national press, including the Sunday Times, Independent, The Mirror and The Simple Things and had some fabulous support from the local media too. To attend a lambing course is something rather different, and rather special too.

Everyone on the lambing course was a pleasure to have around. Some were novice sheepkeepers, others dreamed of one day being sheep keepers or vets, and others just wanted to get up close and personal to the sheep and their lambs at lambing time. Everyone was fascinated by the ins and outs, everyone was so pleased to see live births and to get stuck in with a whole range of husbandry tasks.

Fabulous, attentive  students, fine weather and no major stresses in the lambing shed at the time, all contributed to the courses running smoothly. It is also very rewarding to hear how thankful the participants were to be welcomed on to the farm during such a stressful and busy time of year,  and to get to see such incredible sights.

Who knows what 2015 will bring regarding weather and challenges, but we are pleased to still have made the decision to run the courses again.

For each course, we will also be visiting the welcoming Red Lion pub again, just two minutes up the road, to be fed a hearty meal and enjoy an hour or so's downtime in a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Lambing course dates

  • Thursday 12th March 2015 10-4pm, £90 per participant
  • Thursday 19th March 2015 1-7pm, £90 per participant
  • Monday 23rd March 2015, 10-4pm, £90 per participant

Some lambing students of 2014 also enjoyed very appropriate lambing accommodation when attending the course, staying overnight in the shepherd' s hut, just a stone's throw from the lambing sheds. There is also the Oast available for larger groups.

Although 3 dates have been set, we will consider additional dates for any groups looking for slightly alternative arrangements to what has been detailed so far.
