The Oast

Stay on an unspoilt, traditional Sussex farm, in a very special building, in an idyllic rural situation. Our large three kiln oast house now available to rent all year round, has been finished to a very high standard and is now one of the most stylish large holiday homes in the region, just ten minutes drive from Rye, East Sussex. It occupies an awe-inspiring position within its own half acre plot on a working sheep farm teeming with wildlife and extensive far reaching views.

Tucked away down a long private drive well away from the roads, the oast house has seen a painstaking restoration and conversion programme starting in the Spring of 2010, with once farm building now becoming a fabulous large house to rent for groups of friends and family. It sleeps 12. We have lovingly breathed new life back into the unusual building with its three roundels, originally used for drying and storing hops on the farm. Using traditional craftsmanship and materials in its renovation, the oast house continues to boast its unique heritage and beauty, whilst providing understated luxury and comfort to those who stay there.

The oast house is ideal for families and groups of friends looking for somewhere special in the countryside, yet wishing to also be close to Rye too. It is nestled within the main farmstead and is adjacent to the farmhouse dating back to the 16th century and a fabulous sussex barn, home to our resident barn owls.

Hare Farm Oast offers an ideal getaway for larger groups looking for somewhere to mark a special occasion, in a quiet spot, but still within easy reach of things to do in the Rye, Battle and Hastings area. And although it is self catering accommodation, the local pub, the Red Lion in Brede, is a fabulous resource to use in more ways than one. As well as being a cosy pub serving good food and drinks, it also doubles up as a mini shop selling home made foods and local products (pop to the pub to buy home produced eggs and bread, plus bacon for breakfast). And if you'd prefer to stay put at the Oast, Gary, the chef will also gladly cater for you at the Oast too.
